If you have ever created a website and focused on SEO, you have likely built links. The question is, are you doing this right? Are you creating backlinks to the right sites?

Here, you aren’t going to learn about the SEO value of links. Instead, you will build links as if Google (and other search engines) were non-existent. The focus should be to acquire more or new traffic. At this point, there is going to be no other consideration when it comes to link acquisition.

Now it’s time to learn what the click-generating types of links are and how you can acquire them. Some to consider can be found here.

Wikipedia Links

Wikipedia links are considered “nofollow.” This means that Google probably is not using them to determine search rankings. However, they offer two main advantages.

  1. Wikipedia links will send a steady supply of traffic to your site.
  2. They can send more opportunities for link building to you.

Virtually everyone who is looking for a trusted and reliable source will check on Wikipedia. If you have a link on Wikipedia, it means you will have a citation that can travel from one site to another and from one article to another.

However, when link building on Wikipedia, you should stick to a few important rules:

Keep in mind that you don’t have to have a Wikipedia profile for link placement. Instead, you need linkable content that provides value, and that deserves to be there.

Trending Content Links

One of the most powerful driving forces of linkable content is trends. Creating content about a trending topic is bound to get backlinks. This is especially the case if you use some type of outreach, as well. Something that was discovered during the COVID pandemic is that every journalist and blogger is interested in original tips, ideas, and research on old topics.

Keep in mind, though, that not all trends are considered linkable. You can’t always accurately predict if a trending topic will successfully generate links or if a certain type of content is going to work. If you want to create a link-building strategy that is better informed, be sure to find out what the competition is doing.

Discussion Board Links

It’s important to note that forum link building is considered spamming. However, this isn’t the spamming technique. Rather than registering a new account on a popular discussion board or forum and add a link, answer popular questions on your business website. When you do this, forum users will start to link to your content when they make a reply on these sites.

As you can see, there are several types of backlinks that are better than others. Keep this in mind to help ensure you use the right backlinking strategy for your business and your site.
