Although Instagram has been around since late 2010, recently its popularity spiked. Facebook’s acquisition of the photo-sharing application is largely the reason.

With so many people taking to this creative app to share photos with friends, family and colleagues, Instagram is a tool businesses should be using to connect with audiences.

There’s room in ANY market for photo-sharing.

Companies that have artistic or creative audiences are obvious candidates for Instagram use.

However, businesses in more technical markets stand to excite their audience by using Instagram as well. By using the filter and other editing features on Instagram, anyone can turn the blandest picture into something interesting and share-worthy.

With Instagram’s capability to share via Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and Foursquare, businesses are losing out on an interactive opportunity with their audience if they neglect to make Instagram a part of their social media regimen.

Images are some of the most shared content in the social media arena.

Pinterest is built around them. Facebook has committed to giving them more attention. And you will probably never come across a decent blog that doesn’t use them along with articles.

Instagram is merely another way to connect using images. And it does not take long to get the hang of it. On top of that, as a photo-sharing tool, you don’t have to put nearly as much time and effort into it as you would for social media sites like Google+, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Take pictures of outgoing employees in funny poses, of impeccably designed office interiors, of new product offerings, of satisfied customers, or of random objects that relate to your market.

With the distinctive Instagram filter feature added, images come alive in a way most would never expect.

So if you’re not already capturing images and audiences using Instagram, now is the time to start. By keeping an account updated with interesting visual content, viewers begin to remember your business and expect more attractive imagery from you.

Before you know it, you will have established a connection with your followers, subsequently increasing traffic to the website.
