Google My Business Agency Accounts to Get Location Migration Tool

One of the things many internet giants have been slow to react to is the use of their services by agencies. Often, the problem comes in the form of a feature that was designed to prevent a service from being abused getting flagged when an agency, who needs to work on multiple clients with different accounts, has to switch between profiles constantly. Even Google has been guilty of this. However, earlier this year, they introduced agency accounts for Google My Business which made it easier to handle a large number of locations. And now, Google is adding features that will make it even easier to transfer locations with a Google My Business agency account.

When it comes to managing locations on Google My Business, non-agency account can quickly run into trouble with account limitations. Non-agency accounts are limited to managing 100 locations. This may seem like a lot, but it only takes 10 clients with 10 locations to reach that limit.

In contrast, the relatively Google My Business agency accounts can manage an unlimited number of locations. So having an agency account removes the need to constantly create new accounts for every batch of listings. Since having the ability to add an unlimited number of locations can create issues when trying to manage the accounts, Google My Business agency accounts also get access to an exclusive dashboard that’s designed specifically for managing a large number of listings.

One of the challenges faced by agencies that use Google My Business is onboarding new clients. Many everyday users don’t know how to access the advanced setting needed to give account access and it can be a time-consuming process trying to find who created the original Google My Business account for a company, who has the password and more. Google plans to introduce a tool that will make this process a little easier.

In a post to the Google My Business forum,  Community Manager Allyson Wright wrote, “We wanted to give you a quick heads up that we’re launching a new tool to improve the process of transferring listings to organization accounts. The tool is accessible now to a limited number of organization accounts, but will soon be made more broadly available.”

As this post is all there is to go on right now, there’s no way to know what this new tool will do to make migrating accounts easier. That said, any improvement would be better than the current, cumbersome system. In the meantime, organizations that can use the Google My Business agency other features don’t have to wait for the new feature to become available to make use of the other advantages of the agency accounts.

Keep on the watch for news about the migration tool for Google My Business. Though no actual time frame for the larger release was given, it’s fair to assume that marketing managers will either have access to the tool, or more information on how it will work by the end of the year.
